Name of the Experiment: Estimation of scouring by drop test method
1. Objective:
· To learn about the estimation process of scouring effect by spot and drop test method.
· To learn about standard ranges of spot and drop test method.
2. Theory:
Scouring is the pre-treatment process of wet processing technology. Scouring is the first stage of pre-treatment. Before dyeing or printing of textile materials must pass scouring process. Scouring is the process by which natural (oil, wax, gum, fat etc) as well as added (during fabrication process) impurities are removed completely as possible. Especially hydrophobic character which is present in the fiber of fabric is removed by this process. Spot test and drop test are the method usage in industries to test the scouring effect of a scoured fabric. If the fabric absorbed 1 drop of liquid within less than one second from 1feet of height the fabric is enough scoured and the spot shows as near circular to semi circular.

Figure 2.1 : Process Flow Chart
Process Description:
At first we need to collect suitable amount of scoured sample for test. On the other side we have to prepare 0.1% direct dye solution. After making the solution we have to drop 1 drop of direct dye solution on the fabric surface from 1 feet high through pipette & observe the time taken by the fabric to absorbed the dye solution we also need to visual assessment of spot make due to absorbed dye.
Precautions:
o Taking chemicals as per recipe provided by the Instructor.
o Taking every weight of chemicals carefully.
5. Result & Discussion:
Sample Attachment:
Discussion: We observed here the scoured sample absorbed the dye solution within about 1 sec due to inefficient instrument we are unable to detect accurate time of the absorbing period. But we visualize the spot which is not enough circular that we can say we achieved proper scouring through our experiment.
6. Conclusion & Comments: By doing this experiment we have learned about the scouring process of cotton fabric and estimate the scouring by spot test and drop test method. We are unable to achieve standard scouring effect to the given sample due to less time or less concentration of chemicals in our recipe.
